How do you get that clear, crisp and professional tone on the Saxophone?
Alto Saxophone to be specific; how can you execute a clear and beautiful tone from the saxophone? A beginner player will have a somewhat "fuzzy" tone, while a professional gives off a nice and clean tone. Does it have something to do with embrochure, or maybe letting ALL the air you use go nowhere but into the instrument? Thanks in advance.
i play tenor; it has a better tone than alto right off the bat most times but..yeah.
but to get it..its like all about
-controlling your airflow
.....partially sound but especially making sure you have a constant and steady flow of air into your instrument. dynamics help but it's not all about blowing as hard as you can.
-tonguing
...... it's important to have light tounging if you want to have a really good sound but dont toungue to hard because it will make it sound heavy and just unprofessional and amateur.
-materials
.....if you're serious enough about playing and stuff, get a really good mouth piece (like 70 bucks..ish) and a good ligature. you could be thinking, wait, why ligature? but it really helps direct your airflow properly getting a better sound. no, you do not need a special saxophone to get a good sound. charlie parker played on a plastic saxophone on one of his greatest solos. sure, comparing a student model to a professional model is really a difference, but theres more than your saxophone.
so its all about the materials&techniques.
oh and one more thing. you were saying to not get the fuzzy sound, use MORE air but learn how to control it while playing forte, mezzo forte, piano, mezzo piano, etc.
i really hoped i helped, good luck!
PRACTICE!
