Reference 54
The Selmer Paris Mark VI is legendary; it was released in 1954 and has been out of production for far far too long. When Selmer decided to release a replacement that would evoke many of the same beloved characteristics the end result was the Reference 54 saxophone. If you are looking for a respected modern saxophone you can’t go passed the reference 54, featuring a sound quality similar to the Mark VI, yet still retaining the standard rich dark Selmer core sound and building on that with more spread in the tone.
And don’t forget, Selmer and Selmer Paris have a fantastic range of instruments, including the selmer cl211.
Features
• Special Brass Alloy Body, with Dark Lacquer
• High F# Key / Tilted Bb Spatula Key
• Power-Hammered Keys
• Proficiency Level: Professional
• Plastic Resonators
• Flight Style Case
The Selmer Reference 54, has a rich throaty sound that even “barks” well in the low registers, with the Reference 54 tenor being a major favorite with the jazz fraternity for obvious reasons.
If you are going for something a little different, make sure you look into the selmer b flat clarinet.
The material for the bow, body, bell and neck is a special brass alloy featuring a high copper content; the saxophone is created using a hammering process which offers a richer warmer sound. Little things, like the front F key in pearl, have not been forgotten and a newer compact design brings the keys close to the body. Plastic tone boosters have been used with the kid leather pads to add flexibility and aid in the projecting the sound.
And don’t forget the selmer reference 54 tenor comes as a complete package, including: Paris Lite case, Selmer Paris mouthpiece, cap & ligature and Selmer saxophone care products.
If the Selmer 54 doesn’t sound like it is for you then you might consider selmer prelude tenor saxophone.
