A few questions about Saxophones?
Im 15 and have been playing clarinet for about 5 years, and really want to start playing sax. I'm wondering about the soprano.
First off, does it have the same fingerings as the clarinet?
What kind of reeds are good for beginners?
Does a curved soprano sound the same as a straight, coned one does?
Are there any other tips or things I should know before trying to teach myself how to play?
Thanks:]
1. When you hit the octave key on the clarinet the fingerings are like 90% the same on saxophone with the octave key pressed but on the saxophone let the octave key go and you go down an octave. Pretty straight up. If you know the clarinet then the saxophone is a pretty easy transition.
2. Rico Royal or La Voz are good beginner reeds.
3. My recommendation would be not to learn on the soprano. The intonation on the soprano can be crazy especially on a cheaper one. Get a tenor or alto.
