The Yamaha 88 key digital piano is great for beginners or those who want to add spice to their present skills. Yamaha keyboards are built to suit the personal needs and lifestyles of all types of keyboardists. Some models are great for children and novices to learn on while others are built for professional use. Tabletop units are lightweight and portable while some floor-standing models are not as easy to haul around.
Yamaha keyboards come with graded soft touch (GST) keys that offer different levels of resistance. With graded hammer keys, those who are just learning can build strength in their fingers from their very first time playing, on. These keys are heavier in the lower octaves and lighter in the higher octaves. Both series offer multi and full-fingering keyboard modes. A foot pedal is also provided to control playing volume.
Many piano players, especially the novices, may be interested in the built in musical styles and integrated 500 voices that the YPG and DGX series of keyboards offer. Still, for those who are only looking for good piano keys and sounds, they may consider the P-series of the Yamaha 88 key digital piano family.
The YPG and the DGX series provide a backlit display showing the lyrics, chords, and notation of the song being played. No more straining of the neck or turning pages of a regular songbook. Yamaha Educational Suite (YES 4) software has successfully helped novices to learn to with its intuitive instructions. Its score can be viewed whether it was downloaded from the Internet or created by the musician.
Other features in Yamaha 88 key digital piano offer greater sound variety for the novice. There are 30 prerecorded melodies and 70 additional songs on the included CD-Rom. Oftentimes, a song may seem incomplete without additional background vocals or instrumentation. With its 160 present accompaniment styles, the keyboardist has many options when adding sound and character to music. Five hundred voices are included with an option to add 360 more from Xglite.
There are seven models YDP (Yamaha digital pianos) from high to low: YDP 223, ARIUS YDP 160, YDP 323, ARIUS YDP 140, YDP 213, YDP S30 and YDP 131C. These are console style keyboards, though lacking many of the learning features of the YPG & DGX models, they universally used by both home keyboard players and professionals. These floor-standing units are best used in homes, churches, etc.
While the YPG and DGX series are more suitable for learners and home musicians, the CP series of Yamaha 88 key digital piano are geared more towards stage performers, who demand a high power level of sound, audible throughout an arena. The CP series lack the same built in software and musical styles and effects included in the YPG or DGX series since band players use external synthesizers. Users can lock in personal player settings so they cannot be accidentally altered or lost by pressing random keys.
Every Yamaha 88 key digital piano has great sound quality and control functions. Master EQ allows one to control the overall sound through external speakers. Headphone jacks are included for private listening. Track/song sequencer features make it easy to record and edit songs. Pitch bend wheel gives the player control similar to that of a joystick.
All keyboards can be used with a computer. Through its USB connectivity, one is able to download music from the Internet as General MIDI (GM) and Xglite allowing a greater selection of voices and MIDI song compatibility. Some can be connected to USB devices as floppy disk drives or thumb drives. USB flash memory enables transferring of downloaded songs to the unit as well as songs recorded by users on other keyboards.
All these features and more are what make the Yamaha 88 key digital piano a very user friendly instrument for players of all skill levels.
