Need input on saxophone brands.?
What are some top name brands for Soprano Saxophones? I have a chance to get a Jean-Baptiste Soprano Sax, but don't know if I want to spring for it. I know Selmer, Yanagisawa, and Yamaha, are generally good sax brands, but I see only Jean-baptiste, LA Sax, and Jupiter in my neck of the woods. Also, I started taking sax lessons a while back and my teacher was really a proponent of using only "Professional" equipment, while I remember sitting in a clinic one time where the clinician said you should be able to make any piece of equipment work for you. Any comments on those two statements? Specifically regarding mouthpieces, ligatures, and reeds. There's a huge price gap between Professional, intermediate, and beginning equipment.
