How hard is learning to play saxophone?

I play flute in my high school band right now. But, my brother is graduating this year and he has a saxophone I can use and learn to play for the coming year. It would be a ton cheaper because I rent my flute, and my parents have already paid off his saxophone. How hard would it be for me to learn to play at a high school level in 2 months? I know that's short time, but it's when we start band camp.

The awesome thing is that you already know how to read music so all that remains the same. Also the vast majority of saxophone fingerings are the same or similar to flute fingerings so that's a big head start too. Just find a good fingering chart to sort that part out.

The biggest difference will be the mouthpiece/reed combination to produce the sound. Make sure you moisten the reed before you try to make a sound, line it up correctly and close your mouth securely around the mouthpiece before you blow. You should be able to get a sound fairly easily. Maybe get some tips from your brother but I would suggest you get a few lessons from a saxophone teacher to help speed up your progress. Whether you will be ready to play at a high school level in 2 months will depend on how much practice you put in. There are some tips if you check out the link below.
