What is the best intermediate to professional flute?
I've been playing for a while and I think I need to upgrade. For some reason when I think of "good flutes" the image that pops up is PEARL because everyone just says it is. However, I've never had an instrument that WASN'T YAMAHA. My two oboes that I've played, saxophone, and current flute are all yamaha. Also, It needs to be open holed and has that B-foot that lets you play low low B and B flat
There really isn't a best brand - there are many companies that make fine instruments. Some standard professional flutes are made by Powell (I really love mine!), Brannon, Haynes, Muramatsu, Burkart, and many others. Yamaha actually makes excellent professional flutes, as well! You should just go to a shop and try out a variety of brands. Ask the person helping you to not tell you what you're trying at first so that you listen to the instrument with as little brand-bias as possible. You can also visit www.fluteworld.com to look at brands and prices. They do a trial program and also sell used instruments.
Regarding your last statement, a B foot is standard on a professional flute, but that is as low as it goes - no B-flat!
