What supplies do I need for a saxophone?
I have reeds, neck strap, cleaning rod for the body, saxophone, neck for it, mouth piece, and the ligature, and thats it, what else do i need, and i have music books.
any thing else that would be helpful,
You will need cork grease. This will make it easier to place the mouthpiece on the cork, and will keep your cork from becoming worn down and damaged. You should use a small dab of cork grease every time you put the horn together. A dab will do ya!
I would recommend a silk swab, to swab it out after each use. This will prevent moisture buildup. I also use a cleaning rod, in addition to my swab, but I don't think you really need it. I think a swab is better.
You might want a reed case, to hold your reeds. You should ideally keep at least 2-4 reeds that are ready to play on. The little clear cases that the reeds come in are okay, but a reed case is much better, and allows you to keep your good reeds organized.
You may consider another mouthpiece as you develop your playing. If the mouthpiece you currently have is the one that came with the instrument, it probably isn't very good. The one that comes with the horn is called a "stock" mouthpiece, and is just put there so that the company can say that they included a mouthpiece. There are lots of mouthpiece brands and you'll have to experiment to find one that gives you the sound you want, after you develop your playing a little. The good brands of mouthpieces are Vandoren, Selmer, Meyer, Berg Larsen and many others. There are many types of mouthpieces to fit different playing situations. Most people decide what sound they want, and find one mouthpiece that they really like and stick with it.
Other misc. accesories that will come in handy are a metronome, tuner and music stand.
