Best place to buy a saxophone?
I've been looking for a step up saxophone (that is within a reasonable price range). I am currently playing on this old selmer that was battered and just mistreated before I even got it. I play oboe mainly so most of my money went to that. But long story short there are a bunch of people trying to be in jazz band who have nicer saxophones than me and I don't want to not get in just because my equipment is falling apart and doesn't allow me to play. So where do I get one (used would be preferred) and what kind should I get? I know about woodwind and brasswind but are there any saxophone specific places? Also what kind should I get? My saxophone buying knowledge is limited.
What is your price range? How long have you been playing?
First, yes, WWBW is a great place to buy instruments. Whats wrong with it? They sell both new and used instruments.
Second, what kind of saxophone are you playing, and what kind do you want to get? There's soprano, alto, tenor, bartitone. I'm guessing you have an alto. For used:
Ebay - they have great prices, but remember, be careful. there's some chinese made ones out there and cheaply made ones.
craigslist.com - this is great because its kinda like a local thing
local music store - check it out, they might have some good used ones!
pawn shops - they usually have instruments, and you can maybe sell the one you have right now for it.

Be sure to get a good brand name instrument : yamaha, yanigisawa, jupiter, keilwerth and there's a lot more.
I would suggest you sell your current sax so that you can put that money toward your "new used" sax.
