What are the characteristic of each tenor saxophone brand? Yamaha, Selmer, Keilwerth and Jupiter.?
Hi! I'm interested in bying a tenor saxophone, mainly for blues and jazz and I'm between a YAMAHA YTS-275 (http://www.thomann.de/gr/yamaha_yts275_tenor_sax.htm) and a KEILWERTH ST-90 IV TENOR GOLDLACK (http://www.thomann.de/gr/keilwerth_st90_iv_ten_goldlack.htm) but I'm also open for other suggestions. I would prefer the price to stay lower than 1.300 Euros because I cannot afford a more expensive saxophone. I would greatly appreciate it if you could also give me some links for further research and I know that there's not a "bad" or a "good" saxophone brand or model, just different. So it would be great if you could give me the "differences" in tone and feel of the various brands. Best answer will be choosen according to the information it gives. Have a nice day! ![]()
I am mainly interested in mellow blues and jazz music but I wouldn't say no to a nice rock song. So would it be a better deal to buy an instrument with a dark and more deep sound or a sax with a brighter one? :S
Try to get the best instrument that you can afford. the YTS 275 is a reasonably good axe, even if it does sound a little on the "bright" side. The K-worth should have a darker, heavier sound to it. Each horn has it's features....
The Yamaha will sound even throughout it's range. Some players call Yamaha instruments "McHorns" like "MacDonald's" because they all sound the same, good or bad....
The K-wirth should have a better overall sound. I like Keilwirths because they remind me of the old Elkhart instruments (Conn, Buescher) in feel and tone.
I'm glad that you did NOT get a Jupiter. You can't re-sell them for any money, and for good reason. They are basically junk horns. Many music stores will NOT take them in for trade.
