How To Learn The Saxophone
When you decide to play the saxophone, you must also know that there are some steps you need to take to become a successful player. To begin with, know the proper placing of your lips by having your lower lip rolled, and position half of the mouthpiece over your mouth. Your upper teeth should be gently touching the mouthpiece end. Totally cover the opening of the mouthpiece with your lips. Your left fingers will be on the keys pressing them.
When learning how to play the saxophone, don’t apply too much pressure. Just a steady and slow force onto the reed is enough, while you blow continuous air through the mouthpiece. To create the sound and melody you want, the vibration of the reed is controlled through the manipulation of the air blown into it. Keep your lips positioned onto the mouthpiece until you are able to create a steady pitch with a stable tone. Let your tongue touch the read as you blow air into it. You can now begin to create tones and sounds and familiarize yourself with their differences.
A willing and persevering attitude in learning the sax is a great way to start this journey to mastery. Once you take hold of an instrument and know how to assemble and take good care of it, your next move is to learn how to effectively create a sound by knowing the proper positioning of your mouth and hand which has been mentioned above.
When studying the sax, you will have to put in constant and regular practice. Developing your skills and practicing with much diligence and determination on a regular basis, will make you play like a professional in due time. Concentrate on improving your technique and overcoming your weaknesses.
After you have learned the basics, concentrate on one part of the lesson and master it. For example, learn the sax technique of scaling, and as soon as you get to master this, move on to another technique and style. You can add more technical exercises when practicing. If you have good music and saxophone resource materials, you can use them to practice and choose pieces that are appropriate to your level. Make sure also that you practice intonation and articulation as important parts of saxophone playing techniques.
Intonation is the ability to play this instrument in which you generate sound in accordance with the pitch desired. You can achieve mastery of this by practicing with varying mouth placements and movements. You will produce different sounds and tones and blend notes much like how a singer will vocalize them. The quality of the sound you produce will improve as you practice.
There are more things to know about the sax. And the best way to learn is to get your own teacher. This is to ensure that he has the right info about your strengths and weakness and can act on them accordingly. And remember that even though it’s hard, mastering the sax is very possible with perseverance.
